Our Sensory Room uses exciting technology to provide a relaxing and/or stimulating environment for people of all ages and abilities.
The space is situated within a private room adjoining the Children’s Library and is equipped with digital sensory technology including:
- Musical touch wall
- LED interactive bubble tube
- Fibre optic slideglow
- LED interactive infinity tunnel
- LED sound-activated step light
The Sensory Room’s facilities and programmed activities support the needs of children and adults with autism, dementia, and other sensory impairment conditions, as well as offering a calming environment for those who suffer from stress and anxiety or just need a place to relax.
A member of the library staff will be available to show you how to use the equipment.
Booking Information
The Sensory Room is available for 30-minute time-slots. Sessions are charged at £3 per half hour. If you wish to book a longer visit, please book consecutive time slots.
The maximum capacity for the room is six people (including babies, carers, and non-participants). You only need to book one ticket for the room, no matter how many people are attending.
The room is available: Monday to Friday – 6 slots per day and Saturday – 5 slots

We apologise, but it will not be possible to receive a refund in the event that you cannot attend your booking. The date of your booking, however, can be amended subject to availability and with sufficient prior notice.
